A Good Friend To Have

Greg Mooter invites the student to explore the intrument from the ground up. From cleaning the bass to polishing you techniques, all is inclusive. Whenever you read a paragraph, a page or a chapter, you'll come out of your exercises saying, "now that's much better". Greg offers a map to good and sound techniques for your development as a new, intermediate or in some cases veteran players. I urge you to consider this book not just as a purchase but as an investment into furthering your knowledge of the bass. Whether you play the upright or a 4,5 or 6 stringer, The Bass Player's Handbook must be an integral part of your learning and development. Develop your fingering, improve on listening to tones, make physical adjustments to your bass, how to warmup properly and without strain, of all these scenarios will improve day by day. Great book by a great guy!

This book contains great tips and a great philosophy for bass players.
It stresses the importance of both mental and physical health.There is an in depth description
of common injuries suffered by bassists. as well as tips to avoid them.
The book starts out with the history of both electric and acoustic bass.
There are great chapters on bass construction and adjustments.There are helpful chapters on harmonics,
fingerboard theory, and left and right hand techniques and much more. A must have for both beginners and Pros.

Very Informative, But Dry

This book is very wordy. Not in a verbose kind of way, but is richly informative. In fact, if you were to take it seriously and read every word, you would take a week to get from cover to cover. This is not really for the beginner as much of it is IMO appreciated only after you've played the bass for a while. I'd say, if you've been playing for at least a year or so, go ahead and get it. You'll have a few revelations of things you never understood (or even knew about), and be reinforced in other areas. Great book.
