About the Author
Lee Coppock has a Ph.D. from George Mason University and is Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Virginia. Like Dirk Mateer, Lee has been teaching Principles of Economics for over twenty years; he specializes in the Principles of Macroeconomics. Lee has been at UVA for more than ten years, where he teaches very large classes (600 plus students per lecture) and has become a local legend. He is especially well known for cutting through the jargon and “econ speak” that plagues so many economics courses and texts, and patiently explaining the lessons of modern economics in terms that his students readily understand.

Dirk Mateer has a Ph.D. from Florida State University and is the Senior Lecturer and Gerald Swanson Chair of Economic Education at the University of Arizona. Dirk has been teaching Principles of Economics for over twenty years; he specializes in the Principles of Microeconomics. Before moving to the University of Arizona, Dirk spent 1 year at the University of Kentucky developing their online Principles courses and 15 years at Penn State where he taught very large classes (700 plus students per lecture), developing a reputation as one of the most effective and creative instructors of Principles of Economics in the country; for this, he was recently featured in Businessweek.

I hate Norton Smartwork

I hate Norton Smartwork. The user interface is AWFUL. Teachers should really try and stick to PearsonMyLab. Norton is incredibly difficult to access, attempts, grading etc. are not in plain view and leave the student guessing. Teachers aren't even able to access and change due dates without contacting the company once set. I hate it.

This book is brand new and in great condition. The access code worked perfectly. I love that the book is sturdier than a paperback, but it's not as hard and heavy as a hardback. Just wish this wasn't so expensive. College kid problems. :/

Review of Long and Sedley's 'Hellenistic Philosophers'

In their introduction, the authors compare this work to the Raven and Kirk collection of reports on the Presocratic philosophers. In many ways, this is a very accurate comparison. Long and Sedley present a great collection of reports on the Hellenistic philosophers, many of whom (most of whom) do not have any surviving first hand accounts of their lives and doctrines.

Chapters are divided into schools, and subdivided into topics (ethics, logic, etc.). After each subdivision, the authors offer insightful analysis of the doxographical material that aids the reader's understanding of context, and usually works to put the various (sometimes divergent) reports together.

One important distinction between Raven and Kirk is the accessibility of this collection. Long and Sedley have separated the English translations in a separate volume, and placed the original Latin and Greek sources in a second volume. This makes the work less intimidating.

There were a few awkward cuts and organizations, but nothing to make this any less than a top-notch piece of scholarship. It was much better than Hackett's 'Hellenistic Philosophy'.

Content is great, but the product is garbage. The newest edition is produced from a scan of an older edition. Text is pixelated. Binding is horrible. Utterly unacceptable for a $50 book. You should be ashamed of yourselves, Cambridge University Press.

An essential resource for everyone interested in studying all the available fragmentary texts of and about the Hellenistic philosophers – especially the Stoics, Epicureans, and skeptics. Volume 1 contains English translations with elaborate commentary and indexes. (Volume 2 contains the original Greek and Latin texts.)

Good, but exam is different from book.

My background (because a review is irrelevant without perspective on the reviewer) :
-I used this book as my sole reference for exam preparation.
-I passed the exam a few days ago on my first attempt, with about 30 hours of study.
-I had no formal project management experience or knowledge prior to this exam.
-I am very used with technical self-study with books.
-English is my third language.

I found this book very well written and easy to understand. No unnecessary joke attempts.
You can tell that the author has a great deal of experience both on the matter and how to explain it.
I used to manage my projects intuitively and knew there was a better to do it, simply and efficiently.
This book provides just that.
The summaries and the "exam essentials" at the end of each chapter are very useful. I read them all just before the exam.
The only downside I found was that the questions I had in my actual exam were disturbingly different from the ones in the book and CD.
So different that I thought I'd fail the exam.

Great Resource for the Project+ Exam

This book is a great resource if you are preparing for the Project+ Exam. The choices for books on the PK0-003 exam were somewhat limited; and although this book had a limited number of reviews, I chose this book because of the reviews I read. I have had some formal project management training, so I was familiar with the topics. The book was a bit dry but definitely had all of the material needed to pass the exam. I recommend reviewing all of the practice questions until you fully understand them. (I passed the Project+ test with a high score, first try, after reading this book.)

This Book Could Have Been Much Better

Well, the good news is I am Project+ certified. Much of my thanks in this endeavor was thanks to this book. I am really glad I own a Kindle though. Mind you, I have 7+ years of Project Management methodology experience (I was never a PM, but I've been to plenty of Project Kick-Offs, been a team member and team lead in numerous projects...familiar with terms such as stakeholders, project sponsors, lessons learned...)

Halfway through Chapter 1, I had to turn on Text To Speech on my Kindle, just to keep myself awake. Mind you, in the other Kindle book I read and reviewed, I did not need that feature. The writer really didn't do a good job at keeping me engaged, but in regards to Project Management, it's really hard to get excited about. Her real world scenarios were good reads though. Plus, I was able to pass Project+. But in good conscience, I can't rate this any higher than a three. I had to turn on Text-To-Speech just so I could finish the book and then went back to the chapter summaries and Exam Essentials to bone up on what I was weak on. When I sat for the test, I was out in about 55 minutes (35 minutes to spare). I did not "slam dunk" this exam, but I did pass on my first try. Everything you need to do to pass this exam is in the summaries and exam essentials at the end of each chapter. If you need further clarifcation, then you have to go into the chapter and read it. However, the other book that I reviewed for the other certification I got in August, I didn't have to do that; I was able to read, understand and note easily on what I needed. (It was also more pages than this book too! LOL).

So in summary, download this to Kindle, turn on TTS (may want to lower the reading speed by one from the default), read the Summary and Exam Essentials at the end of each chapter, know every formula she talked about (especially lines of communications since that's an easy one), and hopefully, you too can pass this exam. Overall, I'm just happy with that. :)

All I'd Hoped For And More!

Brooke Chandler is back! Complex characters that kept my interest. Masterful writing. Beautiful, descriptive, scenes. Plot twists galore. Really, all you could want in a book. In short: perfection! Bring on Book 3! Shadow Marked hooks you from the start, and makes you really worry about our complex heroine, who can't seem to stay out of trouble. I love how multi-faceted and real Brooke is. She is no two-dimensional character. She is independent and fierce, and likes to get things done her way. I respect that. Sometimes she gets in over her head, which is to be expected...otherwise, the book wouldn't be 1/10th as exciting! Shadow Marked grips you on page one and doesn't let go until the end. Get in a comfortable position when you start reading, because you will not be able to put it down. LOVE!

Nonstop fun

This poor girl just can't catch a break! Shadow Marked is non stop action packed. Everyone and their mother is out to get Detective Chandler. Of course she handles all the drama with her usual funny banter. I swear I was on the edge of my seat completely enthralled with this story. Not to mention the chemistry between Maddock and Chandler is scorching! Oh and the ending...I can not wait for the next book. Walt and Hamilton pull you in and take you on this wild ride. They are an amazing writing duo.

Shadow Marked is the second book in the Shadows of Salem series. I really enjoyed Shadow Born and couldn't wait to read this one and it did not disappoint me. This could be read as a standalone but I suggest you read Shadow Born first. It will help you understand this second book and the storyline and characters. There is a huge cliffhanger at the end of Shadow Marked and it's clearly not the end of the story. There is violence.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. The author did a good job of giving a quick recap of Shadow Born for new readers. The characters are multi-dimensional and well written. There are a lot of clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next and they keep coming all the way to the cliffhanger ending. Enough to keep me riveted just to see how it ended. As usual not everything, or everyone, are as they appear.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series and can't wait for it to be released! I want to see what else Brooke discovers about herself, her background, and the supernatural world. As well as seeing more of Maddock Tremaine. Can she escape from wherever she ended up? I hope the next book comes out soon!
